Production Ceramicist

SANSO is a Los Angeles based plant design studio focusing on a rare and curated selection of plants and handmade ceramic vessels. Our team is growing and we are looking for someone with significant experience in handbuilding techniques to oversee all ceramic production and ceramic studio management. 

Please note this job is for an in-house ceramicist, this is not a remote position. You will need to be able to work full-time, on-site, in our studio in Lincoln Heights.  

The Production Ceramist will be responsible for the production of all handbuilt ceramics for Sanso. We are actively developing a new line of handbuilt ceramic products for our plants and are looking for someone to manage the production of these pieces.  

The ideal candidate will be comfortable producing pieces in a wide range of scales and techniques. The work is repetitive in nature and requires consistency in execution.  

Job responsibilities: 

-Prototyping new ceramic designs in collaboration with the Sanso team

-Establishing ceramic production schedules and meeting these deadlines

-Executing all hand-built ceramic production

-Placing and tracking all supply orders 

-Operate electric kiln and fire all ceramic pieces

-Bring forth suggestions and ideas for improving studio operations and increase production efficiency  

Other requirements:

-Must have previous experience working in ceramic production outside of your own studio

-Skilled in various hand-building techniques (both coil and slab construction)

-Able to independently troubleshoot technical issues

-Great attention to detail

-Tidy and organized, able to keep studio orderly and clean 

Skills that are helpful but not required:

-Wheel throwing experience

-Experience with glaze mixing and glazing techniques  


The hourly rate is commensurate with experience.
